Voici ma sélection d’une semaine d’actualité de la BI sur les sites d’information et les blogs. Une petite semaine marquée toutefois par la publication du classement Europe 100 du Red Herring. Soulignons un dernier (?) artefact de l’acquisition de Sybase par SAP avec la publication de l’interview fleuve de John Chen, le PDG de Sybase sur Computer World. Autre interview, celle de Norman Nie, le fondateur de Revolution Analytics, la boite derrière le langage R. Enfin, pour la bonne bouche, un papier passionnant de Philippe Nieuwbourg (Decideo.fr) qui retrace l’histoire de la base NoSQL haute performance Xedix, mise au point pour les besoins du CEA. Teradata presented several areas where they are pushing the limits, such as multi-temperature, temporal extensions, and the like. Todds Walters, CTO, did the honors. He started with hardware stuff, because hardware will change the basic assumptions of BI professionals about what they can do. As data ages, its frequency declines…in general. Nous sommes en 1996, la DAM (Direction des Applications Militaires) du CEA (Commissariat à l’Energie Atomique) doit appliquer la décision de Jacques CHIRAC, alors Président de la République. Après une dernière campagne les essais nucléaires cessent. Cette année 1996 met fin à 36 années d’essais conduits par le CEA. Et chacun de ces essais a généré de nombreuses données dont il est important pour le CEA de conserver le détail et de les garder disponibles pour les recherches et les analyses, au fur et à mesure des décennies. I recently had the chance to discuss the open source ‘R’ programming language with Revolution Analytics CEO and founder Norman Nie. Revolution is the commercial organization supporting the open-source project and contains a number of technology bigwigs, including Nie himself, who was the co-founder of analytics firm SPSS and led the company as CEO/chairman of the board for more than 40 years before selling it to IBM in 2009 for $1.2 billion. That’s just one of the conclusions of Wisdom of Crowds, a new business intelligence market study by Dresner’s consultancy, Dresner Advisory Services LLC. Dresner, like the former E.F. Hutton, has undeniable cachet in his area of expertise: when he talks, folks listen. He’s credited with first coining the term « business intelligence » (BI) more than two decades ago, when he was still a research analyst with the former Gartner Group (now Gartner Inc.).
